I know it’s been a long time since I’ve posted an update. I was having computer problems when we were at the hospital and just didn’t have the time to deal with it. So let me catch you all up to speed.

August 4,2010
Today Jes was really excited cause he was going down to Occupational Therapy where they fed him “Blue Apple Sauce”. Yep, blue. They did their first study on his ability to swallow. Keep in mind Jes has had nothing to eat by mouth in 32 days. So the blue apple sauce was a big thrill. They use a dye in the apple sauce to be able to test afterwards to see if it has gone down the correct tube, and not into his lungs. Sometimes the nerve that controls the swallow reflex can ...

Day 33
Today Jes went to radiology for his swallow study. Here you see the actual x-ray of Jesses swallowing while eating different foods of various consistencies to be able to evaluate how strong the muscle reflex is while he swallows. You can also see the trake that's in this neck.

Today Nurse Jamie came to visit Jesse. Jamie was the first nurse Jes had when he arrived in ICU after his surgery. The photo with the Jes fan T Jamie and her sister made just before Jesse left Northern Michigan hospital. The other photo was take today. Jamie, Thanks for making Jesse's day. |

Later that evening Jes ask Dad to give him a high and tight. It's getting real hard to wash his hard and it too hot. Not so easy to do when your laying down and you neck has to stay stationary. I told him we could just leave the roster tail up the back but he didn’t like that idea. |

33 days and 48 pounds lighter, Dad feeds Jes his first meal since the accident. Boy is he a happy camper and wanting to eat everything in site. Another step forward.

Jesse ‘s update July 2010
Jes continues to make progress, slow but sure. His injury occurred on the cervical spine at level C5. At this time he’s immobile from the neck down. He’s out of critical care and has begun his journey with rehabilitation. He had pneumonia set into his right lung about three weeks ago, today he is off the antibiotics and his lungs are doing better.
